Chinese NGO hands over Drinking Water Project to Tarakeshwor Municipality in Kathmandu

Kathmandu . China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) has handed over the Drinking Water Supply Project to the local community in Kathmandu.

Organizing a special function, CFRD handed over the project to Tarakeshwor Municipality, its Ward Office and beneficiary Water User’s Committee.

According to Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of CFRD, “the project will ensure a sufficient amount of water for approximately 300 households, benefiting around 4,500 community people of Thumki and Karkithok villages of Kavresthali, Tarakeshwor Municipality-2.”

The handover ceremony was attened by Krishna Hari Maharjan, Mayor of Tarakeshwor Municipality, Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Nepal, Wu Peng, Director of International Development Department, CFRD, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, Former Minister among others.

On the occasion, locals expressed happiness and shared that the project would make their lives easier and healthier through clean drinking water supply.
The construction of the water supply scheme had begun on December 31, 2022.

The project comes as part of CFRD’s “First Sustainable Development Experimental Village in Nepal” project at Tarakeshwor Municipality. The initiative aims to serve as a model for integrated and sustainable development practices of the foundation with five comprehensive development projects in the area.

The five projects include School Feeding, Skill Development Training, Panda Pack Project, Library Project and Drinking Water Supply Project.
CFRD has been working in Nepal since 2015, with directly benefitting over a half million Nepalis people.
